The Dog Yard

Every so often I volunteer up at The Dog Yard in Breckenridge, CO, otherwise known as Snowcaps Dog Sledding. I love helping out in any way that I can but most often I end up snuggling all the little guys that aren't old enough to run yet. This means puppies, yep, the cutest fluffballs you've ever seen romping through snow. There are around 160 gorgeous Siberian Huskies that live at The Dog Yard. Each year the crew retires a few, adopting the older guys out and introducing a new group of pups to the team. This Spring the crew had prepped a group of ladies in heat but it ended with them all not pregnant. They tried again in the Fall, this time successful, or shall I say too successful? They ended up with 24 new pups as one girl, Drea, ran loose and got a little frisky out in the yard. This meant extra puppies and all the more kisses and licks to go around. On one of my free days I made the drive up to play, cuddle, and snap a few photos of yard friends and fluffy faces.

Midnight Full Moon Climb

I drove up the pass from Denver to spend the night camping in the mountains with friends. We hiked up at midnight, climbed in the light of the full moon, and gathered around the fire to stay warm. We caught up on life, talked about Jesus, and laughed about how strange our paths are weaved into this tapestry of humanity. There are some days that I awake, uncertain of what life may hold for me. I'm extremely thankful for these moments with friends when fear of the unknown is banished and I'm filled with encouragement and love. Nights like these remind you when you're doubting that you matter, especially to Him who keeps the Universe stable.

Celynn & Ryan

Celynn and Ryan had a small wedding planned at Sapphire Point near Breckenridge, CO. Family and a few friends had made the trek to watch these two incredibly loving people vow their lives to one another. It had been warm the entire week and thankfully we were blessed with another incredible bluebird sky and sunny afternoon. The ceremony was short and sweet and we were able to take our time with photos on the beautiful trails running around the mountain overlook.

Hanging Lake

This is a continuation post from my instagram account @micahemily on which I posted a 3 part photo series of @caleb_the_human and I's wintery hike at Hanging Lake in Western Colorado. These are the full frame photos whereas the instagram account shows a preview of them cropped. I've added a few fun photos as well as some landscape to this post because I can't get enough of this gorgeous hike and I think you'll enjoy them too!

Alli & Sean

Elopement at Hanging Lake? Yes, please. Hanging Lake is my all time favorite place to take friends and family who visit. The hike to get to the hidden gem is fairly mild and fun, plus you're surrounded by waterfalls and foliage the entire way up. This area never gets old and I'm always in awe of the beauty surrounding it. I might add that it's also the most perfect setting to get eloped in. This adventurous couple hiked up early, spent time getting ready in the woods, and proclaimed their vows under a waterfall in a secluded nook made from tree roots growing around towering rocks. After the ceremony and with no time constraints we were able to scour the area and take as many photos as we desired. Alli and Sean were up to get creative, even if it meant crossing streams and stepping onto precarious logs that were slick with moss. When we finally came down from the lake we regrouped in Glenwood Springs for an afternoon appetizer and drinks before they were whisked away to a romantic dinner and the end of a beautiful day.

Ravenscraft Family

This is one of the first families I met upon my arrival in Colorado. When they asked me to take photos of them when the whole crew was in town I couldn't wait until we got together! We met at the top of Boreas Pass in Breckenridge which closes when the snow begins to fall and was still snowed in when we had our session. The trees line the road and it's one of my favorite places in Breckenridge to photograph.

Vail Pass

We barely missed the rain on this shoot! I'm so glad that we caught a break because the cloudy skies made for the most dreamy light. This family worked so easily and quickly with me to capture their photos before the rain came back. One of their older children had been battling cancer and she wanted to snap a few photos without her hair. I was thrilled and in the end I think they are some of the best from this session.

Wed in a Blizzard

Although the weather turned into blizzard conditions we safely traversed back and forth across the county for this winter wedding. The ceremony was a small one of family and a few close friends and it made for an intimate feel, especially when we returned to the reception site; a cozy cabin home set in the heart of Breckenridge. The bridal party was incredible and not only agreed to it but were also excited to hop into the storm and snag a few snowy photographs. They even started a snowball fight before rushing back into the warmth of the house laughing and brushing off snow. The night ended as family and friends gathered in the cozy log cabin to yummy food, champagne bottles being popped, and a fire crackling in the background. Whenever I left the reception I was welcomed to over 8 inches of snow on the road and light fluffy snowflakes hitting my lashes. I smiled and looked forward to editing the photos from the last few hours. What a lovely wedding.

Ash & Shea

Prior to their big day, I had been co-workers with Ash and Shea for quite some time. They were consistently a fun, spunky, and adorable couple. I loved hanging out with them and when they told me they were engaged and looking for a photographer, specifically me, I couldn't be more excited! Not only would I get to photograph friends but, I'd also get to photograph a couple that you could literally see the love and happiness emanating from them. Their day was special and unique with lots of little details, friends who traveled across continents, and amazing drinks/eats. Their wedding was held at a location with a restored old barn and dance floor that opened up to the gorgeous mountain background Grandby, Colorado, beholds. Their ceremony was held in front of this lovely backdrop where we also took the majority of their wedding party photos and ended them shortly before a rain shower began. Their reception was filled with delicious food and laughter and they ended the night dancing to the best funky music that their friends got down to. Seriously one of the funnest and easiest weddings I've gotten to be a part of. Brides, get married in this gorgeous state, and ask me to photograph it!
